The rise of All-Electric Homes

Nearly 20% of the UK’s carbon emissions come from homes, largely due to the widespread use of gas boilers. However, the future of home heating looks promising, with hopes that carbon-free, ‘clean’ technologies will become the standard.

What Is an All-Electric Home?
An all-electric home operates entirely on electricity, without the need for gas or other fossil fuels. Often referred to as zero-carbon or cleantech homes, they’re considered the gold standard for sustainable living today.

An all-electric home includes:

  • Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity and you don’t need a sunny day to generate power – you can do so as long as it’s a bright day
  • Battery storage systems allow excess energy generated by solar panels to be used later (particularly when the demand for electricity is at its peak, so it’s more expensive to get from your energy supplier).
  • Heat pump systems are powered by electricity produced by your solar panels, and move heat between the indoors and outdoors.

The Greenest Homes Today

Beyond boosting energy efficiency, one of the biggest advantages of these technologies is the ability to generate your own electricity as well as shift your energy.
